Improving Behaviors in
Traumatic Brain Injury Survivors

YPSILANTI, Mich. April 3, 2009 — Agitation and negative behaviors have great potential to disrupt therapy progress and recovery after a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).

TBI survivors may experience a range of neuropsychological problems depending on the part of the brain that is affected and the severity of the injury. Personality changes, memory and judgment deficits, lack of impulse control and poor concentration are all common issues survivors face. Behavioral changes can be stressful if they cause internal conflict or they stand in the way of progress.

RainbowVisions Magazine, a news source for the brain injury industry published by Rainbow Rehabilitation Centers, reviews strategies for managing negative behaviors through an effective behavior plan, Functional Behavior Analysis and Behavior Reinforcement Techniques such as backwards chaining and pattern
recognition. These strategies are successfully used in Rainbow’s Behavior Modification Program on a daily basis and may be utilized at home or elsewhere. Learn more in the Winter 2009 Clinical News article “Improving Behaviors.”
