Pediatric Summer Fun! Program Participates in Detroit Metro Walk Like MADD in September
YPSILANTI, Mich. July 29, 2009 – Rainbow Rehabilitation Center’s Summer Fun! Pediatric Program offers therapeutic programming for children, teens and young adults with brain injuries to maintain the skills learned throughout the school year. Running from June 22 to Aug. 28, the program includes:
Each year, the Summer Fun! Pediatric Program at Rainbow Oakland Center is involved in volunteer projects to give back to the community. For the second consecutive year, one such project is the Mother’s Against Drunk Driving (MADD) annual walk and fundraiser. Part of the fundraiser is the creation of the memorial shoe display for the walk on Saturday, Sept. 26 in Troy, Mich. Rainbow is again making this display with donations from employees, clients and others.
The Summer Fun! Pediatric Program is working to collect 317 pairs of shoes to line the start of the walk to represent the 317 people who were killed by drunk drivers in Michigan in 2008. There were also 5,700 people injured in alcohol-related crashes in the state last year, and MADD is determined to work to reduce such accidents this year and in years to come.
“It was a really good time last year with prizes, music and a great walk,” said Nicole Rondini, an Occupational Therapist at Rainbow’s Oakland Center. “We had many compliments on the impact of the shoe display that started the walk as well.”
Support the Cause
In addition to creating the memorial display, the Rainbow Oakland Center, is participating in the walk, along with clients, staff and family members. You can join Rainbow in the walk or support the cause by making a cash donation.
In 2008, Rainbow raised more than $1,000 for MADD. The monitored goal for 2009 is $500, but the real goal is to surpass the $1,000 mark again! Help Rainbow reach its goal by joining in the walk or making a cash donation. To join in the walk or make a donation, visit the Rainbow Oakland Center’s Personal Team Page.
