Brain Injury Association of Michigan Hosts Annual Conference Sept. 24-25

YPSILANTI, Mich., Sept. 22, 2009— Rainbow Rehabilitation Centers returns as a Gold Sponsor of the Brain Injury Association of Michigan’s 29th Annual Conference, held Sept. 24-25 at the Lansing Center. The conference features keynote speakers, workshops on brain injury topics, exhibits and more.

Rainbow, a rehabilitation center for brain and spinal cord injury based in Ypsilanti, Mich., has been involved by serving as volunteers, committee members and sponsors of the annual conference since it was first held 29 years ago.

Several Rainbow employees serve on various committees and volunteer during the conference, including Rainbow’s Admissions and Marketing Assistant Mary Mitchell, who serves as Chair of the conference Vendor Committee. Mary and Heidi Reyst, Ph.D., Rainbow’s Director of Clinical Administration, serve on the Conference Program Planning Committee. Marketing Director Lisha Clevenger serves on the Membership Committee for the Michigan Brain Injury Provider’s Council, which holds its annual meeting at the conference.

The BIA of Michigan has invited Brent E. Masel, M.D. and Al Condeluci, Ph.D. to provide keynote speeches. Masel will speak on “Brain Injury as a Disease,” while Dr. Condeluci will focus on “Cultural Shifting: Building Social Capital.”

The conference workshops are facilitated by a variety of speakers from across the country, including therapists, physicians, researchers, nurses, attorneys, brain injury professionals and people with brain injuries. Some of the workshops include:

  • “The Emerging Role of Neuropsychiatry in Brain Injury Rehabilitation: Shifting from Symptom Control to Restoration of Function”
  • “Vision Rehabilitation: the Missing Link”
  • “Can Hormones Make a Difference? Traumatic Brain Injury and Hypopituitarism”
  • “Strengthening Families After Brain Injury”
  • “Return to Sport After Concussion”
  • “Accessible Outdoor Recreation with the Department of Natural Resources” and dozens more.

According to conference organizers, “The purpose of this two-day conference is to provide state-of-the-art information about brain injury treatment and therapies, which will foster maximal rehabilitation and a good quality of life.”

For those attendees with Certified Brain Injury Specialist certifications and others, Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) will be available in several rehabilitation, therapy and nurse certifications.
