For children and adolescents with ongoing medical needs, Rainbow offers a specialized Medical Program in comfortable pediatric residential settings.

Our nurse practitioner, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and respiratory therapists along with our interdisciplinary therapy team provide care as directed by your child's pediatrician. Specially trained rehabilitation assistants provide 24-hour care.

Because of our Medical Program services, children often discharge earlier from the hospital and have a reduced need for subsequent hospitalizations. Pre-injury conditions often become easier to manage.

Medical services include:

  • General health monitoring for current conditions
  • New illness or injury identification and disease prevention
  • Medication administration and monitoring
  • Gastric tube management
  • Peripheral Intravenous Central Catheter (PICC Lines) for IV therapy
  • Bowel and bladder programs
  • Ostomy care and management
  • Respiratory services including tracheostomy care and weaning
  • Seizure management
  • Anticoagulant care including Lovenox and Coumadin therapies
  • Post-orthopedic surgery care
  • Wound care
  • Dysphagia management (swallowing programs) to advance diet
  • Diabetic care
  • Neurosensory stimulation program for sub-responsive clients
