Summer Fun! Oakland County Session Descriptions
- Academics - Academic activities led by a certified teacher
- Art 4 You - Building self-esteem and self-awareness through the use of a variety of art materials
- Aquatics (RT) - Therapeutic swimming
- Awareness Group (MH) - Focus on social skills and self awareness. Topics include safety, decision-making and peer pressure.
- Brain Gym (OT & PT) - Physical training and activities that stimulate the brain and body to enhance focus, learning and performance
- Comm. Group (SLP) - Communications Group – using written and spoken language to improve communication skills
- Computers - Exploring and developing computer skills
- Fitness (PT) - Cardiovascular and strength-building activities
- Fun & Fitness (PT) - Focus on improving physical well-being by incorporating cardiovascular exercise, strength training and stretching with age-appropriate games and activities
- Games Galore - Participation in various games, opportunity to develop and practice social skills
- Handwriting (OT) - Multi-sensory approach to improve fine motor skills and handwriting
- Health Mgmt. (Health Management OT) – Promoting good health practices through interactive real-life experiences including good hygiene, nutrition, gardening activities, etc.
- IADL (OT) - Preparation and education for instrumental activities of daily living including work skills and budgeting
- Leisure Skills (RT) - Various recreational activities to encourage/develop leisure skills
- Literacy Group - Reading and discussion of age-appropriate books with an emphasis on comprehension and vocabulary expansion
- Mental Health - This group will explore a variety of issues, such as problem solving, appropriate communication and diversity
- Multimedia (SLP & OT) - Understanding and applying the use of electronic media safely and securely while applying knowledge and skill to improve expressive and receptive communication skills
- Music Therapy - The use of music to address physical, emotional, cognitive and social needs
- Outing - Community-based outings (field trips)
- Pay It Forward (OT & PT) – Volunteering
- Pre Voc (Prevocational) – vocational-based training
- Rewards Program - Review of daily behavior with positive reinforcement provided.
- Sensory Group (OT) - Tactile, movement-based activities, development of fine motor skills, reinforcement of everyday movement
- Social Skills - Education in pro-social interactions
- Values - Character education
- Vocational (OT) - Job-coached work programming to teach about the world of work and to facilitate individual skills and employability development
- Yoga - Relaxation – both physical and mental exercise
