Achieving quality of life is one of the most important functional outcomes of rehabilitation for individuals with a spinal cord injury (SCI). Survivors often report that their lives change in a number of ways, both positive and negative, after injury. To help individuals cope and to promote a personal sense of well-being, Rainbow offers full Mental Health Counseling including:

  • Supportive counseling to reinstate hope
  • Behavioral therapy to modify and reinforce positive coping behaviors
  • Individual and family counseling to address systemic issues

SCI can provoke a profound emotional response for the survivor, friends and family. Feelings of hopelessness, denial, depression and fear are normal reactions. With treatment, individuals can learn ways to cope with limitations and regain their lives. It is possible to go back to normal activities such as school and work and sustain normal relationships such as marriage and parenting.
