The handbook defines the two principal types of diabetes and how to manage them with a healthy diet and exercise. A description of symptoms of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia are also included.
The handbook contains an extensive food exchange list that provides carbohydrate, protein, fat and calorie information for a variety of foods, drinks, desserts, seasonings and fast food information along with sample menus of healthy foods.
Instructions on how to test blood glucose and insulin administration can also be found in the Handbook.
A copy of the handbook is placed at all Rainbow residences and treatment centers. This resource will also be used for diabetes training classes.
