On October 18, 2019, Rainbow hosted the Reflections Gallery Young Adult Art Exhibit at our Livonia Corporate Center featuring works by Rainbow’s young adult clients.
The juried all media exhibition featured artwork created by participants in Rainbow’s Young Adult Vocational Program. On display were 32 pieces of art created by 17 different artists consisting of painting, photography, drawing, digital coloring, poetry and more!
The event was attended by clients, families, guardians, case managers, as well as many Rainbow employees. Guests enjoyed viewing the works of art on display and mingling with the artists. Light appetizers and sparkling cider was served as well.
Like any formal art exhibition, the winners were decided by a panel of jurors. The jurors included Bill Buccalo, President and CEO, Dr. Carolyn Scott, Neuropsychologist, and Jeff Capron, Job Coach. After the awards were announced, our jurors spoke about each winning piece and why they chose each creation for an award.
The winners of the art exhibit were as follows:
- Best of Show: Self Portrait by Cornisha Wright
- 1st Place: Many Questions by Abe Ahmad
- 2nd Place: Darkness in the Light by Harley Wagenaar
- 3rd Place: Girl in Curtains by Charles Slaten
- Honorable Mentions: Polaroid Collection by Dominique Greening & Horse Running by Andrea Hooks
Guests were also able to vote for their favorite piece for the People’s Choice Award. The winner of the People’s Choice Award was Hannah MacLean for her photograph titled Beaver Island.
For months, Rainbow’s treatment team worked alongside our young adult clients as they created their unique pieces. This experience has allowed our clients to freely express themselves artistically, and feel the pride of presenting their pieces in front of an audience. It was evident by the beaming smiles and joy on the clients faces that they felt very accomplished of their works!
Rainbow plans to continue holding art exhibits in the future and expanding the opportunity to our adult and pediatric clients.
